Aes vs 3des
3DES and AES are block ciphers and neither is publicly known to have been cryptanalized. 3DES has a few weak keys.

It can use 2 keys or 3 keys with each 56 bit. 1 key would also be possible, but is not really useful. If you have 112 key bits, you can create 2 keys for 3DES or you can pad the key material up to 128, 192 or 256 bits and then use AES. In my opinion, there are no reason to choose 3DES over AES, ever.

AES might have been the successor of the DES encryption algorithm, but here’s everything to know about these vastly different methods DES, AES, RSA, ECC — as someone who’s been covering In cryptography, Triple DES (3DES or TDES), officially the Triple Data Encryption Algorithm (TDEA or Triple DEA), is a symmetric-key block cipher, which applies the DES cipher algorithm three times to each data block. I have the belief that we should be using the strongest encryption we possibly can.

If your organization hasn’t switched to the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), it’s time for an upgrade.
